If you are reading this, chances are, you’ve tried just about everything and still feel angry, depressed, lonely, and overwhelmed.

My therapeutic style is dynamic, genuine, and practical. I like to call it out with kindness when you are going off track, I will give you encouragement when you are making positive progress, I will also give you tangible skills to make progress. My aim is to help you focus on the process of self improvement, identify and disrupt unhealthy patterns, and understand the underlying causes of your thoughts, feelings, and actions.

Many of my patients report increased awareness, shorter recovery time from being triggered to “back to normal” mood, feeling generally less brittle and more confident. I enjoy providing a healthy balance of compassion, accountability, guidance, laughter, insight, and homework in order for you to make lasting, positive changes. Feel free to reach out to me via email and set up a free pre-screening call (5-15 minutes): Zi@ziwangmhcs.com

It is crucial to work with a clinician who “gets” you and challenges you at the same time. For this reason, we will use the first session to conduct a comprehensive intake, talk about your current struggles, treatment goals, and any past therapy experience that may be clinically relevant. I will tailor my clinical interventions (CBT, DBT, emotional regulation, somatic therapy, etc.) based on your presenting issues and treatment goals. I believe the best way to increase positive clinical outcome is commitment to consistent treatment and a healthy balance of accountability and compassion.

FAQs

What payment methods do you accept?

All major credit cards, debit cards, and Health Savings Accounts are accepted forms of payment. All appointments have a 24-hour cancellation policy.

How often should we meet for therapy?

In order to be admitted as a patient to my practice, weekly treatment as much as possible for the first 3-6 months of treatment is required: if you actually want to have a chance of seeing positive and sustaining changes, you must be willing to show up and do the work, consistently over a long period of time: otherwise, it’s a waste of our time and your money to go through treatment bi-weekly and not see enough progress. We can re-evaluate based on your clinical presentation and treatment progress after the 3-6 month mark.

Are all appointments virtual?

My practice is based in New York City, but all appointments are conducted virtually at this time. My practice does not offer any treatment via phone, emails, or texting: having visual cues will most likely lead to more insight and positive treatment progress.

What are some themes/issues you work on with your patients?

Self awareness & personal growth: We cannot solve a problem if we are not aware of it. A general lack of self awareness and lack of willingness to self reflect can be harmful to the quality of your interpersonal dynamics, professional performance, and the overall quality of your life. You must learn to fully accept your flaws and your strengths to have a more fulfilling life.

Interpersonal issues: Understanding your wants and needs in relationships; exploring patterns of interaction, attachments styles, as well as interactions that lead to your maladaptive behavior being reenacted over and over again.

Mood regulation: It's not enough to know that you experience mood swings. We need to get to know the root of your emotional triggers and develop effective skills to self regulate and self soothe. A regulated nervous system will most likely lead to more genuine connections with self and others. Many of my patients have seen a shortened recovery time after a setback or a unpleasant trigger (this can be only achieved through consistent and ongoing weekly treatment).

Racial and cultural identities: Exploring your racial, cultural, and ethnic identities and how they influence the way you move through everyday interactions.

Trauma: Trauma changes the way we relate to ourselves and others. From your strong reactions to criticism, the way you obsess over the same thoughts constantly, the strong desire to say “No!” to people.. these patterns will show up in every facet of your life and impact the quality of your relationships. With trauma informed treatment, we will learn how to establish safety, hope, and joy and at the same time reduce the likelihood of you getting into trauma state (freeze, people pleasing, avoidant behavior, etc).

Who don’t you treat?

My ideal patient has the openness and willingness to look at their own role and responsibility in all of the situations and relationships they are in. If you enjoy the ongoing process of growth and understanding yourself (thoughts, feelings, coping skills, strengths, liabilities, interpersonal dynamics, etc.), we may be a good fit. Let’s be honest, you don’t want therapy, you want confidence, peace, and genuine fulfillment in your life. With steady treatment, patience, and self reflection, these goals are possible.

My practice does not offer emergency services or treatment via phone or text message. Patients who have had recent suicide attempts, has a history with self harm behavior, have an active eating disorder, psychotic features, or recent inpatient psychiatric hospitalizations are strongly encouraged to seek higher level of care (i.e. 24/7 coverage, psychiatric treatment, etc.).

My practice does not admit patients who 1. only want to meet once or twice a month at the initial stage of treatment, 2. place too much emphasis on problem solving instead of ongoing self improvement and introspection, 3. are overly focused on venting and not receptive or open to constructive feedback or learning new coping skills. Lasting positive progress requires ongoing committed to the healing process and the willingness for introspection. Based on clinical research and my professional experience, consistent commitment to quality treatment + introspection = more noticeable progress + shorter treatment length + fewer costly/maladaptive behaviors from the patient.
